The Counfell fatt, quhair act paffit that proclamatioun fould be made for Sessioun. fitting doun of the feffioun on 3 Junij nixt, and the nixt counfell dyet wes appointit to be on xxi of May.

A dauchter of Sir William Grayis departit off the plaig, quhilk put us all sir W. Gray. in greit fear.

This day a letter writtin to Mr. Thomas Henryfoun, and delyuerit to Leutenant-Coronell Scott off the Erll of Buccleuchis regiment, in anfuer of

one gevin me.

ing bak my letteris to Sir Charles and his nephew, fent 21 April, and ane anfuer of myne to my Lord Chancellar, fent (inclofit in myne to my Lord Wariftoun) to my Lord Chancellar anent 480b fterling to my fone Sir Alexander.

Northfield.

Sent (with Mr. Archibald Law, wryter in Sir William Scottis chalmer, Francis Sinclair of quho gois to Caithnes be fea) to Francis Sinclair of Northfield, the anfuer of his letter reffavit be me on 6 May, and with it inclofit ane affignatioun to 1 lb., as a part off the band off 2395 4ß, maid to him be John Denholm, quhilk band Mr Archibald Law left with me, and I patt it in the schottill of my black cabinet in my ftudie.

This day the Erl of Lothian fent Mark Caffe of Cokpen to me, with the Erl Lothian. difpofitioun of the few-maill of Watterheid to my fone Sir James, and the discharge of the few-maills of the 3 part of Southfyd, with ane letter from my Lord full of courtefie, quhilk I anfuerit inftantlie with Cokpen.

15 May 1645, Thursday.

This day a generall bruit come of a bloodie conflict betuix Montrois and

betuix Montrois

Conflict in Murray Maior Hurrey, neir to Spynie in Murray, quhairin wes greit flauchter on both fydes. But Montrois kepis the fieldis, and Hurrey fled to the Caftell of Spynie. The Lord be merciful to us.

Butt immediatlie we hard be letters from the Lord Frafer to the Lord Balmerinache, and from Sir James Melvill to his father-in-law, Mr. Robert Ferquhar, prouest of Abirdein, that Hurrey keipis the feild, and Montrois fled to the hillis; and that it wes fochtin in a mure neir Aulderne, on Fryday, 9 Maij, be the space of tuelff hours.

20 May 1645, Twyfday.

The certainty cam off the conflict, quhilk wes worfe nor the first report, and litill trew of the fecond, and the more lamentabill that the worthie Lord of Laweris wes killit in that conflict.

This day letteris fent to Mr. Thomas Henryfoun, and within his to the Erl of Calendar anent the decreit gevin aganis the Erll of Errollis cautioneris on 15 May, and stayit till this day, quhilk I gave to Mr. Andro Ker.
