John Meldrum, his convictioun.

fignator of Nova Scotia. Item, off the act of allowance to the chamrlans, with refervatioun to his Maieftie, quhilk wes contradictit with clamor, and be the Lord Traquhair refufit.

6 August 1633.

Memorandum.-Writ a letter to the Erl Stirling, quhilk wes to go with Mr. James Law, anent the convictioun of John Meldrum, and within it a letter from John Macmorran to Mr. Levingftoun; quhilk letter wes 'delyuerit to Mr. James Law on 3 August. But Mr. James went not and thairfoir I delyuerit it to Mr. James Gordoun, and with it an other to my Lord Stirling, more ample speiking of the buffines of Frendraucht; and within it one to Doctor Chalmers anent that and Cragyvar, quhilk went with Charles Mowatt, fervitor to the Erl of Buchan, this 6 August 1633.

Item, the Lord Carnok went to toun this day, and fent with him a letter to James Levinftoun, anent Coldenknows, and als anent the convictioun of John Meldrum.

8 August 1633.

Sent with Captain Maxwell ane letter to the Lord Stirling, defyring him to fend the contract and fignator of Tillicultry hither, quhilk was fent to him a zeir fince.

12 August 1633, Mononday.

Delyuerit to Dauid Muirheid my letters to Lord Stirling, Erll Ancrum, and James Levingstoun, and in the Lord Stirling's, the fignator of Perftoun for Sir William Murray, and cravis anfuer for Anna Lyoun and Sir William Steuarts.

Item, writtin to them anent the Countess of Airth her coming to Court.

Pacquet fent by my Lord the Erl of Stirling, and the it letters from John Pilmur.

16 November 1633.

Register, and in it sent two pacquets, one to other to the Lord of Panmuir; and within Item, another pacquet contening two letters,

one to ather of tham; and in them written anent the letter to the Commiffion, for proceiding firft in termes of erectioun, and for appointing the day of fitting.

23 November 1633, Setterday.

Pacquet fent be myfelf to the Secretar, quhairin a letter from the Commiffioun to his Maieftie, anent difcuffing of the valour of the tithes of erectioun ; followit ane anent the third day of the week. Item, to the Lord Panmuir, with John Pilmur his letter to Mr. Andro Ramsay. Item, to Erll of Ancrum. Item, to Dean of Winchester. Item, to my Lord Alexander. Item, to Mr. Walter Neifche.

27 November, Weddinsday.

Delyuerit to Mr. James Gordoun, a pacquet to be sent by an fervand off Monfieur Briott, quhairin to my brother William, letters to the Erll of Erl Portland Portland, Thefaurer, and Sir William Balfour. Item, to the Erll Stirling, land. with the Mafter of Workis fignator, and to Lord Panmuir.

This day Alexander Alexander cam poft with the gift off ward and marriage of the Erl of Buccleugh, quho deceffit at Londoun off the apo-Erl Buccleugh deplexie on fryday the 22 of November 1633; and returnit bak on Sounday, 1 December 1633.

This nicht at 8 hours at evin, a pacquet fent be me, quhairin a letter to Lord Panmuir, and within it the forme of my warrand for the Marquefs of Hamiltoun, anent my 2000 lib. fterling. Item, to William Murray, with an fignator of Inchaffray to Patrik Murray.

14 December 1633, Setterday.

Letters delyuerit to Mr. James Gordoun, directit to the Erll Stirling, quhairin to the Lord Panmuir, with the Marquefs of Hamilton his letter in my favours.

This day Sir James Lockart went to Court, and fent with him a gret pacquet of writtis; quhairin to Lord Panmuir, with a letter anent the Marques his proceiding, and anent the decreit of proper wedfettis gevin 18 December 1633. Item, to the Erl Stirling with James Levinftoun his fignator of Coldinknows, dockettit be me. Item, letteris to Mungo Murray from the Erl of Anandaill. Item, letteris to my brother James, and within them 2 to Robert Hope.

27 December 1633.

My fone Alexander went to Court, and gevin him 60lb. sterling.

9 January 1634, Thursday.

Sent letteris by pacquet direct to my Lord Traquhair, quhairin one to Erl Stirling, one to Lord Panmuir, and within it one to him from

Item, to my fone Mr. Alexander, my own to the Erl of Ancrum for Bishop Caithness.

17 January 1634, Fryday.

Sent ane gret pacquet to the Erl of Stirling, quhairin the Erl of Lothian his fignator, the Bishop of Edinburgh his gift, with an letter to the Marques of Hamiltoun, 2 to the Erl Stirling, 2 to Lord Panmuir, and within them on from John Pilmuir. Item, an letter to Lord Alexander, one to Sir G. Flefcher, one to the Erl of Ancrum, one to Sir Robert Gordoun, one to my brother, and within it one to James and another to Harry. Item, my letter to my fone Mr. Alexander, and within it one from James Hope to him, quhilk cam from Rouen efter he wes gone for Court.

23 January 1634, Thursday.

Delyuerit a pacquet to Mr. James Gordoun to go vnder cover in Sir Archibald Atchefon his poft pacquet; quhairin to the Secretar anent James Levinstoun fignator, quhilk he bids me reffaue, but fent not; and one to

Lord Panmuir, quhairin the copy of the contract betwix the Marques and him. Item, one to my fone Mr. Alexander.

25 January 1634.

Sent letteris my (by) Doctor Bailzie to Lord Panmuir, quhairin to himself, to the Marques, to Earl Stirling, and to my fone Mr. Alexander, and within his one from Alexander Lowis to Hary Hope.

29 January 1634.

This day Alexander Pirrie went to court, and fent with him letteris to the Erl of Stirling, quhairin one to the Lord of Panmuir and ane other to my fone.

4 February, Twyfday, 1634.

Reffauit letteris from my fone Mr. Alexander, of dait 23 Januar, acquainting me with the decefe of my deir brother James Hope. My brother departit on 22 Januar 1634, being Weddinfday, at 4 in the morning.

8 February 1634, Setterday.

Pacquet fent to the Erl Stirling, quhairin 2 to his Maieftie, ane anent Home, with the extract of the procefs and informatioun, 2 anent his Maieftie's affaires; fent with the Erl of Traquhair. Item, letteris to the Lord Duik, Erl Traquhair went Lord Marques, Erl Stirling, Erl Ancrum, Lord Panmuir, Sir James to Court in FebLokhart, Lord Alexander, my fone, and to William Murray of the bedchalmer.

This day a pacquet fent with a fervand of Patrick Wod, quho raid post this nicht at 4 afternoone; quhairin to the Erl Stirling, Lord Traquhair, Lord Panmuir, and fone.

Letteris fent by the Erl of Laderdaill, quhairin to his Maieftie, to the Marques, Panmuir, and my fone, with the copies of his Maieftie's letter, His Maiestie's pre- and informatioun anent his Maieftie's prerogative royall in the cognofcing rogative royall. of decreis off the Lords. Item, to the Erl Stirling and Erll of Traquhair.

22 February 1634.

This day delyuerit an pacquet to the Erl of Annandaill, quhairin wes one to the Erl of Stirling, fchewing of the acting of his Maieftie's letter in exchekker, anent the impoft of 6f. fterling on the coall transportit beyond fea. Item, one to Lord Panmuir, schewing the reffait and paffing of Sir George Flefcher his fignator of penfioun of 200b fterling, and of the affife hering for his lyftyme for ij merks of tak deuty. Item, one to my fone. And thais the Erl of Annandaill promifit to fend with John Steuart's fon, quho wes going poft.

1 Merche 1634, Setterday.

This day a pacquet delyverit be me to Mr. James Gordoun, to go under his cover, quhilk is direct to the Erl Stirling, and thairin to him, fignifying the finding of the charter of Ladop being Mariage. Item, acquainting him with the fignator of his efcheit quhen it fal pass.
