This day an pacquet gevin to Mr. James Gordoun, quhairin on to the Brechin to Lord Erl of Stirling, with the fignator to the Mr. of Work. Panmuir, and thairin Erl of Rothes anent Brechin.

This went not quhil 28 Merche, being Fryday, at 10 hours at evin; at quhilk tyme I fent an pacquet to the Erl of Stirling, and thairin letters to the Erll, with the twa fignators of Raliftoun, and new gift of the forreftis of Tillicultry dockettit be me, viz. Raliftoun to John Lord Colvill, and the gift to Erl of Stirling and Lord Alexander his son, for thair lyftymes. Item, letters to Lord Panmuir, with advertisment anent the fignator of Soap. Item, to Erll Ancrum. Item, to Sir James Lokhart. Item, to Doctor Chalmer. Item, to my fone Mr. Alexander, with a number of letters to him.

The clerk of Register went to court; and fent with him an pacquet to Lord Stirling, quhairin to Lord Panmuir and my fon, anent thair anfuers to his Maieftie's letter for pleading in Seffioun, and anent foolish Mr. R. Crag.

1 Apryll, Twifday, 1634.

Sent a letter to the Marques of Hamiltoun, with the fignator of commiffion for compounding anent extraordinar taxatioun, with confent of the exchekker, or any fyve, the chancellor, thefaurer, and deput being one.

Item, this day about 6 at nycht the Countess of Home, with the Erl of Lauderdaill, the Lord Doun, and Lord Maitland, with his lady, cam to my chamber, and ther first the Countess apart in the window, and then scho, the Erl Lauderdaill and Lord Doun, promifit to me, if thai get any thing be the procefs, to gif me two thousand merkis. The Countefs called it pundis. Item, this promife renewit be hir and the Erl of Murray, and Lord Doun, on Weddinfday the 6 of August, 1634, at 5 hors at nycht.

Andro Hay went poft, and fent with him letters to the Lord of Pan- Erl Traquhair. muir, quhairin to him with the grevances aganis Lord Traquhair; (1) of

my precept of 2000b, (2) of my.... of Advocat, (3) of removing from

exchekker tabill, (4) of my exceptioun of Kynninmonth. Item, warrand Kynninmonth. to pass the Kings hands, allowing Kynninmonth to except it from the furrander. Item, letter to Mr. Alexander, with an other to Lord Duik for the exceptioun of Kynninmonth.

Mr. Hary Drummond went to court, and fent with him a letter to his Maieftie anent the fufpenfion betwix the Erl of Airth and his creditors. Item, an letter to Lord Panmuir, with one to my fone, with the informatioun for anfuer to the Erl of Traquhair his calumnie anent the furrender of Sanctandrois, delyuerit to the Archbishop of Sanctandrois.

12 July 1634, Setterday.

Memorandum. This man went nott, in refpect G. Home cam from court with a letter to me anent the fubmiffioun of Home.

3 August 1634.

The Lord Alexander went to court, and fent with him ane pacquet to my fone, quhairin ane to the Erl of Ancrum, with the affignatioun off the tak of the teindis of Coldinknowis to be fubfcryvit be him, with a letter from the Erl of Lothian his fon and Mark Cafs to that effect. Item, ane letter to Sir James Carmichaell, ane to Dean of Winchester, and within it a letter reffauit from Hew Scrimgeor. Item, a letter to Hary Alexander; and at this tyme I wret none to Lord Panmuir, becaus he wes on his journey to Scotland.

This day at vj hours at evin, the Lord Panmuir came to Edinburgh from Londoun.

18 August 1634, Mononday.

This day the vnhappie chekker compts fubferyvit; and the Lord Alex

ander went to court, and with him fent ane pacquet to my fon, with William Murray his fignator.

19 August 1634, Tuesday.

anent Erl of Airth.

This day the Erl of Roxburgh told me that his Maieftie knew perfytlie that Erl Roxburgh the Erle of Airth wes trewlie come of Dauid, and that Malice wes fon to Eupham and Patrik; and a glance of this I had from Erl of Airth on 13 August, and from the Lord Marques on 18 Auguft the efternoon, quhilk wes efter the greit blaft. God mak me thankfull:-Non femper timidis fervare vexatum procellis equor.

Item, this day delyuerit to the Bifchop off Rofs by his brother, ane pacquet to my fone Mr. Alexander, and within it a letter to his Maieftie, and ane other to the Bifchop Canterbury, in favors of the Bifchop of Rofs, and thairin to the Bifchop for my fon Mr. Alexander.

26 August 1634, Twyfday.

This day at 4 efternone the Marques of Hamiltoun returnit to court; Marques of Hamiland went to Ledingtoun and delyuerit to his Lordship ane letter to his Maieftie, with certain articles anent the comptis and exchekker. Item, delyuerit to Thomas Dalmahoy, in prefence of Doctor Baillie and My sone Mr. Alexander 50lb sterling. Mr. George Noruell, an pacquet to Mr. Alexander, quhairin is 50lb fterling of gold. Item, a letter to him, and an other from his brother Sir Thomas; and one from me to James Levingstoun, quhairin I defyre him to reid the last part of my letter to his Maieftie, in quhilk I declare that I haif fent my letter to his Maieftie with certain articles, and defyris his Maieftie that thai come in the hands of none but his Maieftie and the Marques of Hamiltons; or if in otheris, in James Levingftoun's awin hands; and expreffed quhat fufferings I fuftein for his Maieftie's feruice, but that I intend not to leiue for the frownings of any man; being fo refoluit out of the fyer of Strathern not to boudge for the refpect of any, and bleffing God that now his Maieftie hes gottin the trewth of that buffines.
