And he said, I will not do it for forty's sake. 30 And he said unto him, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak: Peradventure there shall thirty be found there. And he said, I will not do it, if I find thirty there. Lot entertaineth two angels. Before CHRIST 51 And he said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord: 1898. Peradventure there shall be twenty found there. XIX. 1 Lot entertaincth two angels. 4 The vicious Sodomites are stricken with blindness. 12 Lot is sent for safety into the mountains. 18 He obtaineth leave to go into Zoar. 24 Sodom and Gomorrah are destroyed. 26 Lot's wife is a pillar of salt. 30 Lot dwelleth in a cave. 31 The incestuous original of Moab and Ammon. Jude them, and shut the door after him, 7 And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. 9 And they said, Stand back. Matt 24.16, to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. 18 And Lot said unto them, Oh, not Acts 10. 14. 50, my Lord: 134 P. 145. 19 19 Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: 20 Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. 21 And he said unto him, See, 'I have Heb. thy accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast spoken. Pand all that 8 Therefore Abimelech rose early in the morning, and called all his servants, and told all these things in their ears: and the men were sore afraid. 9 Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us, and what have I offended thee, 9 that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done. 10 And Abimelech said unto Abraham, What sawest thou, that thou hast done this thing? 11 And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake. 12 And yet indeed "she is my sister; she is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. 13 And it came to pass, when God Hebr. 11. 8. caused me to wander from my father's house, that I said unto her, This is thy kindness which thou shalt shew unto me; at every place whither we shall come, y ch. 12. 13. say of me, He is my brother. 2 ch. 12. 16. a ch. 13. 9. 14 And Abimelech took sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and womenservants, and gave them unto Abraham, and restored him Sarah his wife. 15 And Abimelech said, Behold, my + Heb. as is land is before thee: dwell where it good in thine eyes. b ver. 5. ch. 26. 11. d ch. 24. 65. e Job 42. 9, 10. f ch. 12. 17. pleaseth thee. 16 And unto Sarah he said, Behold, I have given thy brother a thousand pieces of silver: 'behold, he is to thee da covering of the eyes, unto all that are with thee, and with all other: thus she was reproved. 17 SoAbraham prayed unto God:and God healed Abimelech, and his wife, and his maidservants; and they bare children. 18 For the LORD had fast closed up 14 And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child, and sent Jo her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. 15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. 16 And she went, and sat her down over against him a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against him, and lift up her voice, and wept. 17 And "God heard the voice of the lad; Es CHST and the angel of God called to Hagar out 188g. of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he is. 18 Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him vert in thine hand; for "I will make him a great nation. x Numb. 21. A Trial of Abraham's faith. ND it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, + Behold, here I am. Before CHRIST 1872. Jos. Brhold the fire and the wood: but where is the || lamb for a burnt offering? 8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together. 12 And he said, 'Lay not thine hand f1 Sam. 15. upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fach fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me, 13 And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. 14 And Abraham called the name of that place || Jehovah-jireh: as it is said The LORD to this day, In the mount of the LORD it will see, or, shall be seen. 15 And the angel of the LORD called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time, provide.
