K R Padiyar is presently a Visiting Professor at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. He has beenProfessor/Honorary Professor at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (1987-2013). Prior to joining IISc, he was withIndian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (1976-1987). He obtained ME degree from IISc in 1964 and PhD degree fromUniversity of Waterloo, Canada in 1972. He has taught and lectured at several universities in India, Canada andUSA.He has authored over 200 papers and 7 books including FACTS Controllers in Power Transmission and Distribution.His research interests are in the areas of power system dynamics and control, HVDC and FACTS controllers and theirapplications in WAMS and development of self-healing grid.
