NOTE. The transcription of Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic words in the present Memoir conforms to the system approved by the International Oriental Congress of 1894. In the phonetic rendering of Kaśmiri words the lines adopted by Dr. G. A. Grierson, in his analysis of Pandit Isvara Kaula's Kaśmiri Grammar (J. A. S. B., 1897-98) have been closely followed.
